Hello dear friends. Many may wonder where we have been? If we have a blog why haven’t we been writing? When Jill and I started on this journey many years ago we knew it was a God ordained assignment. We knew we were meant to write. I guess I could go into a thousand details of the why this past year I have mostly been silent but at the heart of the matter is was one thing — I needed to hit pause.
Pause is the greatest invention on a remote control. And then you add in a DVR and the ability to hit pause and pick right back up in your show when you are done with whatever you were doing is genius!
Last year felt hard for me. The year before my family went through the death of my mother in law. That consumed us for obvious reasons but the lingering pain crept into many areas of our life. Looking back, I also realized I was in a hard parenting season. I had a school age daughter and two kids still at home. Managing it all well required total devotion and time.
Now, in retrospect, I needed a break. I needed to say — wait. Wait a little longer and trust Him in this season of pause. Sometimes, it is a season of rest but for me it was a season of quietly reflecting on my ability to do things well. I have never felt compelled to “do it all” but I do often feel compelled to do whatever it is I’m called to do with excellence.
Now, today…. it is time to reactivate the pause button on my DVR. The Lord in His great kindness has helped me work through some things from last year. As we all struggle with purpose and identity, I realized I needed to pinpoint a few areas in my life that were unhealthy and need a boost of spiritual truth. It didn’t take long for the Lord to show those to me.
I’ll unpack those another day and show you how I walked through changing some patterns but for today I will leave you with this encouragement: Hitting pause is a good thing. It doesn’t mean you are giving up or don’t want to do the hard work. It means you need to step back, evaluate, set your life back to a peaceful place, and listen quietly to the Lord speaking.
When we commit to a peaceful and quiet spirit you will hear the whisper of God. He rarely shouts so we need to turn down the noise to hear.
So… here I am ready to hit PLAY… Let’s see what the Lord has to say!
